Ergonomics: Things to do to Stay Active at home

Things to Do to Stay Active at home

With COVID-19 keeping most people at home, it’s more important than ever to focus on maintaining your physical and mental well-being. While socializing via phone and video calls is a good way to boost your spirits, it won’t do much for your body. For example, if you have existing back, neck, knee, or joint pain, it will likely get worse if you’re not exercising at home.

.

That’s why we recommend ergonomics home workouts that target issues like back pain or knee pain. Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, we would recommend that you come into Aspire Family Chiropractic in Waterford for a consultation with our trained chiropractor. However, as we all practice social distancing, chiropractic care is more difficult to attain.

However, this doesn’t mean you need to experience neck or knee pain without any help. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of things to do to stay active at home. Take a look below.

Ergonomics Home Workouts

If you’re unfamiliar with ergonomic exercises, there’s no need to stress. We will guide you through with some of the top home workouts to address pain and tension in different areas of the body:

  • Back pain: Leave your arms down, but bent at a 90-degree angle (or forearms should be perpendicular to the floor). Then, simply pull your elbows back for 5-10 seconds at a time. Do this repeatedly to ease pain in the back muscles.
  • Neck pain: Tilt your head to each side, holding it in that position for 5-10 seconds. Don’t tilt too far, as this may cause you discomfort. You can also stretch neck muscles by turning your head to the side for 5-10 seconds at a time.
  • Knee pain: Lie flat on the floor facing down. Lift each leg up to a 45-degree angle for about 3-5 seconds. This exercise will help build the muscles surrounding your knee, lessening pain over time.
  • Joint pain: Most low-impact exercises can help with joint pain, including swimming, walking, and cycling.

While this is not a comprehensive list of ergonomics home workouts, it will give you a great starting point to get your workouts going. When you’re stuck at home, it’s easy to fall behind with your exercise regimen, which can lead to pain and even chronic ailments. Thankfully, if you find low-impact exercises to keep your body moving, you will find that you experience much less pain and discomfort.
